Exfoliation
exfoliationExfoliation is a method where the layer of dead epidermal cells on the outer surface of the skin is removed to expose fresher mostly living cells. The possible benefits of exfoliation include brighter looking, fresher skin and better penetration of active elements of skin care products and for people with oily skin a varying degree of lessening in oil secretion.

Exfoliation generally does not improve significant wrinkles since its effects do not reach the dermis where wrinkles are formed.

Usual exfoliation should not be embarrassed with deep chemical peels, laser peels and other semi-invasive wrinkle treatments methods. Such methods are not to strip the dead cells from the epidermis but to create controlled injury to the dermis.

The deeper layer is important for skin structural integrity. The following wound-healing response and skin remodeling help to wipe out some of the wrinkles. Such procedures as deep chemical peels are aggressive treatments to be done infrequently by trained professionals.

The benefits of adding exfoliation to a skin care routine are not multi-purpose. At first, the skin needs natural exfoliation anyway. Without exfoliation, the skin would be with inches because continuously produced new epidermal cells would accumulate.

Epidermal cell turnover and the resulting natural exfoliation are quicker when you are young. Therefore, youth generally do not benefit from exfoliation and are more likely to suffer its bad after effects.
